TrafficWatch

Free open-source TrafficWatch: a local-first 3D globe of your PC or laptop connections. Metadata stays on your machine.

What it is

A free open-source desktop tool for a glanceable map of where your laptop or PC is talking — not Wireshark, not a packet lab.

Local-first globe

Live 3D globe with connection arcs and a live list. Runs on the box, stays on the box. Default bind 127.0.0.1:8767.

Metadata only

Endpoints, process names, rough geo. No packet capture, no payload decode, no port scanning. Enough signal to notice odd outbound paths.

No accounts, no telemetry

No cloud sync, no signup, no phone-home. Alerts and optional block when something looks off — your machine, your call.

Security stance

Built for people who want visibility without handing traffic to someone else.

  • Binds 127.0.0.1 only No LAN expose by default.
  • No telemetry, no accounts, no cloud sync
  • No packet capture / payload decode / port scanning Connection metadata and process context only.
  • Command lines redacted by default Tokens / long secrets masked; reveal is authenticated and not persisted.
  • Wi‑Fi name not written into alert history Shown on your screen only.
  • UI assets vendored No runtime CDN. Secrets / local DB under data/ (gitignored).

How to run

Python 3.10+ on both OS. Full requirements and notes are in the GitHub README (opens another site).

Windows 10/11

Use start.ps1 or Launch-TrafficWatch.bat (Python on PATH; Edge WebView2 for the desktop window).

Browser fallback: .\start.ps1 -Browser

Linux

Use ./start.sh (creates .venv, installs deps). Optional desktop window needs a WebView backend — see README.

Server only: ./start.sh --server
